Catching Up and Looking Forward

As you all probably know by now - my “day job” on One Tree Hill is completely wrapped. It’s time to both catch up and look forward. Nick is, as ever, honing his writing craft. Hil’s publicity machine keeps you up to date on what’s going on in her world. Nevertheless, the Hellick still has a few irons in the fire on the indie front.

Last night, friends and I were gathered in the kitchen, cooking yet another smashing dinner. Wine was flowing and conversations bouncing back and forth when I brought up a story that had touched me during the final few weeks of OTH. The last few weeks have been a bit blurry for me, each day of the final week of shooting was a emotional roller coaster, the sadness in my heart was overwhelming at times and I'm not ashamed to tell you that tears flowed. We hugged and said goodbyes to our cast and out of state crew, friends all... some closer than others but all... ViewGLAAD Spirit Day!!

I hope you all are wearing purple today! For those of you guys that don't know, today is GLAAD's Spirit Day - a day to show support for LGBT youth and speak out against bullying. (http://www.glaad.org/spiritday)
I feel lucky that I grew up in a house that encouraged acceptance. I have vivid memories of my dad helping my high school drama department... ViewThinking about a boy I didn't know......

Driving to back to our location at Johnny Mercer's Pier for Day 2, I look up through my sunroof at the gun barrel gray sky. Rain is not something that we need… nope, there's nothing in the script that calls for rain towers so I'm hopeful that the cloud cover will burn off. We made the move to the beach quickly, where we would finish the day's work with thanks to our lean and mean "we can drive anything on wheels" transportation department (Russell Byrd, Jason Cannady and Cliff Willman.)

My brain wouldn't let me sleep much and I finally got out of bed around 3:30 am or so, drank a pot of coffee and headed out to the beach, arriving there at 5am. During the drive, my mind was racing, I know from experience that in production if something goes wacky and you don't catch it and fix it immediately, it has a tendency to start throw... Casting was slated for Monday (a holiday - for some folks!), and boy did we have a great turnout, over 40 actors showed up for the 2 speaking roles, Emily Young and her wonderful staff really put together a wide range of actors so that Director Ben Callner and Producers Bill Keith, Stephen Clark would have the cream of North Carolina actors to choo...
