A Pitch Meeting...
I met a wonderful writer last weekend who pitched me a story that was truly amazing.
Before the meeting, I didn't want to like the project... what little I could find out about the story online didn't feel like something that I wanted to be spending a whole lotta time on... to be totally honest some of the subject matter was a little strong for my taste.
However, as I sat across the table from this animated story teller, her box of research about a historical event spilled, overflowing onto the table, photo images of the people that she was telling me about looked up at me frozen in time... innocent faces... young faces... vibrant faces that all told the same story... they all believed in hope. Now, I can tell you this much, it's story is about human injustice and I've read a lot and watched more than a few movies on human tragedies. This story moved me like no other... it speaks to me on many levels. The pitch meeting went longer than i had expected - I agreed to help this writer tell their story... it needs to be told.
All week has been about researching this story, buying books online, scouring the internet, pulling together the many, many threads that have to be woven together to make this the powerful movie that it deserves to be. As the deeper details of the story slowly come to light, it amazes me more and more. How one person can change fate... Now we all know that great stories don't always get made but I sure hope this one does...
Friends - i debated telling you about yet another project in the pipeline - in this age of instant gratification we all want entertainment and information at our fingertips - but this project has been buried in years and layers that need to be carefully brushed off. So many gems - characters, settings, stories that need polishing before the first script is drafted...
I'm telling you because this is the reality of life in the entertainment industry - a crazy quilt of possibilities - not always complete, yet - but exciting!
Onward,
kt
