Filmmaker Chris Suchorsky's first feature-length documentary was the film "Golden Days." The film follows the ups and downs of a Brooklyn-based indie rock band (The Damnwells) over a five-year period, as they go from struggling indie artists to major recording artists and back to struggling artists again. He talks about the process of putting this film together, his thoughts when the band went from the high of being signed by Epic Records, to his thoughts on what the film would become when The Damnwells were dropped by Epic Records during the filming of the documentary. He also sheds light on the distribution of the film.
Suchorsky entered the film world in 2003 with his award-winning documentary FAILURE. The 35-minute comedy documentary follows Suchorsky on his first attempt/failure at making a feature-length narrative film. The film toured the festival circuit in 2003/2004 and reached its biggest audience at the 2004 Phoenix Film Festival.

Wow, what a great interview... Full of optimism I'd say. There were a lot of interesting things discussed.
1)NETFLIX! What a great tool for the industry. I had never really though about the benefits Netflix would have for films such as these but it sounds like it is having some amazing impacts.
2) I loved when Chris told the story of first listening to The Damnwells. The 'each song was better than the last' bit. Its hard to find a band, or even a record, that floats your boat... But, if you are lucky enough to find such a band or record, it just seems as though they were crafted solely for you and your tastes... Weepies, Wilco, Ray LaMontange, Damien Rice, Sublime, Dave Matthews, Kings of Leon, Brett Dennen have similar effects and it is magical.
3)"55 Pictures" section- I think my FAVORITE thing about all movies is its marriage with music. I think the best job would be spending your days meticulously finding the perfect song to accompany a scene. I have yet to see the film, but I've heard the song and can only imagine the film/song marriage.
Overall, I love his ending message. "Trying to make it in the world, trying to live your dreams." Isn't that what we are all trying to do... I know I am, and I know that is why I am on this website right now.
I’m new to SoGoPro but i loved listening to Chris. I haven’t seen the golden days, but now I’m interested. He has a lot of passion for this band, and it’s great that he could help share a band that he enjoyed listening to. My favourite part would be him talking about how much he wanted to tell the story of the Damnwells, telling the stories of their music and the struggles that they have faced. Chris had his own struggles as well shooting at venues and getting the correct angles. The way he talks about the closing scene and how it had never been his planed ending, makes it seems that he knew exactly how this documented needed to be told. Great podcast!
