nantucket.
we at SoGoPro aim to please. so even as the haikus have been put to sleep, this gossip guy has been made keenly aware that our unswerving dedicatees just can't stop waxing poetic.
welcome to the limerick throwdown...
grab a guinness, or a shillelagh, or a leprechaun, and spin us a wicked rhyme or two. or three. or ten. you know the deal - lincoln, mona, pedestrian, SoGo, hil, kelly, austin, or me. well, maybe not me. "nick." the rhymes write themselves, don't they? and rarely are they appropriate.
let's take a look at the form, shall we?
"The limerick packs laughs anatomical
In space that is quite economical,
But the good ones I've seen
So seldom are clean,
And the clean ones so seldom are comical."
- anonymous
so.
5 lines. with the following rhyme scheme -
A
A
B
B
A
and so it goes, limericks are knee-slappers. but maybe we should keep 'em clean. or not.
and hey, no excuses this time. winner takes. (methinks austin would crush us all.)
here's a few to get you started...
***
there once lived a man named Lincoln,
but not the same one you are thinking.
though not bearded at all,
he's still rather tall,
too his problems don't seem to be shrinking.
Mona Mills was a New York darling
who mistook those she met for Prince Charming.
in her moat she encountered
a few-worded flounder,
so she fished, but he swam like a marlin.
there once was a man from nowhere
who snapped shots of skinnies in mohair.
an artist with light,
a con-artist at night,
truth told, he tagged more Emmas than Flaubert.
(and one last smidgen of a clue with regard to Jay Moore. read back to the nomenclature entry for her introduction.)
diva Jay was a B+/A- actress,
often facedown on Linc's mattress,
but the love that they shared,
when to true love compared,
would remain on the path to pathless.
hm. jay. any ideas?
[addendum: throwdown ends monday at midnight.]

LOOKING FOR SOMETHING?

Comments
ok even though Raq, suggested I write one about Procrastination, I found this that I had written really late like Saturday. So here it is...not my best but it is what it is...
There once was a girl named Hilarie Burton,
Her future was bright, that was certain.
Bubbly and optimistic
Now she’s even altruistic,
Giving hope in times which are uncertain.
Wish I had time to do more...but its 11:57 as I type this! Time is UP!
So, I was at the dentist today, and was trying to think of some more limericks to pass the time. But when I got home I couldn't really remember some bits, so had to adapt a bit. Anyway, on with the show! :P
On Wilmington:
It’s film’s best-kept secret, this Southern gem,
As for Hollywood types, we don’t need them!
We’ve got charm and great views,
And lots to amuse
It’s a town about hard work, and general mayhem!
Dunno whose perspective this is from - you choose:
I told ya, you kids were a match made in hell,
But the louder I yelled it, the harder you fell.
“It’s different this time,”
You said, “Love ain’t a crime,
So don’t even try to go breaking our spell.”
Mona to Lincoln? Lincoln's subconscious? Who knows. Bear in mind that there was actually a drill in my mouth when i formulated this, looking up at white tiles and trying to think of something else. So perhaps you will excuse the somewhat askew rhythm :P
What’s your world like, when not viewed through a lens?
D’you have a wife, or a house, or babies or friends?
A camera and a car
Only take you so far,
And they’re terrible company on lonely weekends.
Beannachtai na Feile Padraig! Happy Saint Patrick's day from Ireland :) xx
^^^ woah i nearly jumped outta my chair when I saw your post sparklegirl1! AFRIKAANS! Im from S.A as well how weird is that?! Im in Joburg, wherre are you??
Ok, so here is my attempt in Afrikaans:
Lincoln Booth, die fotograaf
Almal het gesê hy is baie gaaf
Sy pad het met Mona Mills gekruis
En soms wou hy wegkruip soos 'n volstruis
Maar hy was meestal baie braaf
Translation:
Lincoln Booth, the photographer
Everyone said he was very kind
His path crossed with Mona Mills
And sometimes he wanted to hide like an ostrich
But he was mostly very brave (or honest)
wow, that really doesn't make any sense in English.
Hey Hilarie!
I met you March 12th outside of tric and I asked you how SGP was going.
I checked out if you guys had a myspace and you did not so I went ahead and made you guys one.
I talked to Ian for a bit this week and he was really cool, i would love to help you guys out and for you guys to be a part of the myspace.
You can email me at malkerson@comcast.net
(i was the girl that had you say "hi tonya and mercedes" :) )
Hope all is well, Nathalie M.
"Just write a limerick", Nick said
This guy who's incredibly well read
But when he starts to write
Well, he's just out of sight
And the competition is literally dead
There was a young man name of Lincoln
Who engaged in contemplative thinkin'
He teamed up with Miss Mills
For romance and thrills
And together there was no one could sink 'em
more limericks:
Southern Gothic -
Hil Burton approached Kelly Tenney
To go forth and make movies plenty
They asked Nick who then skipped
To write for them a script
Thus Lincoln, Jay and Mona com free.
Lincoln Booth and his ladies -
Mona Mills is Lincoln Booth's thrill
And there's no one else for him until
Jay Moore comes into view
And Linc's mind is in two
And he bows to their every will
Katie (aka irishmolly)
hmm, so i really suck at writing poetry, but i thought i'd give it a shot.
life can be rather exciting in the city,
but it really is a pity
that one can't see the sky
so i pack up my bags, say my goodbyes
and leave the chaos for a life of simplicity.
Austin Nichols, the sexiest man alive
When I look at him, my heart begins to jive
And had it been me
His naked body to see
I think my heart rate would dive.
Okay, I'm done. Lol.
Here are some more:
Beautiful, an actress, stands Hilarie
Any character you ask of her, she can be
She's even a producer
When she's not saying "who, sir?"
When on camera, she can cry much better than me
And then along came Nick
Who was most definitely not a dick
One of the great writers, they'll say
He can quote Southern Gothic novels all day
When cheering one up, his words always seem to do the trick
Then there's Kelly, a man of power
He seems very sweet, not at all sour
Revered, he will be
When Pedestrian's free
We lift our glasses to the Southern Gothic Tower
Mona may just be another chick
but without her you'll tick
sitting in a motel thinking
how she keeps your heart beating
dang kid, you better act quick
<3 Charlotte
It's clear I'm no limerick writer.. ha. :/
There came a call from above
to float the words of a dove.
From the Fear it came
to avoid the lame.
Tis' March, again, thus they throw down th' glove.
So with task at hand, trumpet in the band.
Remove your head from sand, to begin this stand.
To the rhyme it goes,
the contestants, who knows?
But for certain they come from all o'er the land.
Comes a soul from Port City to answer the call
grab a pint, a dram a keg or a tall.
Throw it down the gul'let
chased like a bullet.
This the time that the mighty do fall.
"O, Constable, can't you cut us some slack?
To those who rebel the Union Jack."
From different places
of dirty faces.
"We merely, don't wish for your tax."
"So, rats as you run all over the cobblestone,
I ask that you throw a poor soul a bone.
Chew through the shackles
that summon the cackles.
And someone get my attorney on the Phone."
Celebrating Saint Patty's Day we have called the raid off.
And yes we are sure the judge has been paid off.
Let the humble be free
that does include me.
Yet please keep the chains on Madoff.
Let's bring the verses to an en',
and celebrate with a frien'.
To the Pub we go,
beware the seeds we sow.
FYI, today is not the day for Gin.
Each one came to town as single So
and they grew and changed as does life Go
amateurs before
She, wails, "Nevermore."
and now they come together and venture as Pro.
... a love limerick that was actually meant to be :))
... and a last one ... A Love Serenade to beautiful Wilmington ...
Just East of West
That's where you'll find the very best
Along the Carolina Coast
Is where I long for being most
And lay my soul to rest
.... and one on Lincoln ...
Now there was this man and he was called Booth
He's had so many girls that all hell broke loose
So one day he disappeared and was never been seen
Like gone with the wind, left everything clean
And I gotta tell ya, that's nothing but the truth
This is kinda addicting once you get the hang for it. So here are my tries ...
First one is in Swiss German ...
Oeb am Morge frieh oder Zobe schpoot
Do uf SoGo isch nie langwilig will immer was goht
Do chame im Chat diskutiere
Oder au ganz vill spannendi Blogs kommentiere
Drum hoff ich ganz feschd, das uns SoGo nie verloht
And the translation for this (though the rhyme's completely gone now) ...
Whether early in the morning or late at night
Here on SoGo it's never boring as there's always something going on
You can discuss in the Chat
Or comment on interesting blogs
That's why I hope SoGo will never go
Ok, so in light of the lovely shout-outs for two of my haikus, i am feeling the pressure to make it a hat-trick :P. Limericks are harder than haikus, though. What next, I ask you, a sonnet? A sestina, perhaps? :P
Anyways, am intrigued by Jay Moore. This is from her persective:
“I like you,” she said, “ though you’re not worth the trouble,
You’re kind of a drag, and you live in a bubble.
But you turned my head,
You jumped straight in my bed,
And what am I left with? Just ashes and rubble.”
and...
Who knows what it’s like to rate second best?
To this miserable fate, Miss Jay Moore can attest.
Though he tries, she is sure
That she’ll never be “her,”
She’s a notch on the bedpost, a clue in the quest.
Mona Mills....:)
A marvel, was Mona, a marvel and a mess.
And a mystery too, Lincoln had to confess.
Changed her mind every second…
Went wherever life beckoned…
But, my, she looked pretty damn good in that dress.
Lincoln Booth...:)
I think of all the chances missed,
The roads I’ve travelled, the girls I’ve kissed.
Now the clock starts to tick,
’Cause it seems that I’m sick,
And I’ll tell you a secret, I’m kinda pissed.
And finally, a silly little one about the Southern Gothic team...:)
Self-proclaimed geeks with a penchant for plaid,
And a taste for red wine – hey, that can’t be bad!
So go forth without fear,
The future looks clear,
You know it, you love it, SoGoPro is rad!
Will post more if i can think of them! I've enjoyed reading everyone else's :D.
There is this girl, called Mona
And a boy called Lincoln, the loner
Together there love sings,
In Winter, Summer or Spring,
If only the damn guy would phone'er!
I love the SGP team,
Can you see my smile beam?
Together we chat,
And wear gorgeous hats,
Pedestrian will be as great as it seems!
Sue
I did one in Dutch i hope you guys like it :p
Hilarie burton is een heel lief meisje
ze eet het liefst vooral een ijsje
ze is heel vrolijk en spontaan.
als ik bij haar ben op de maan.
En terwijl ze lacht zit er op haar wang een bijtje
translation ( try it )
Hilarie burton is very sweet girl
and she love to eat an ice
she is very cheerful and spontaneous
when I'm with her on the moon
And while she laugh there is a little bee on her cheek
Hayley Tonner - Your one for Austin was hilarious! I loved it! :)
;djf;kdsljfIt keeps deleting my posts! :P
I hope this one works though.
Anyways, here's is my attempt at a limerack :)
Never, after this will their dream go astray
Thousands will flock to the cinema that day.
The exciting day when Pedestrian premiers
The greatness will bring everyone to tears.
Thanks to Hil,Kelly, and the one they call Gray
i decided to do another one... why not...
Kelly, Hil and Nick
definitely have our pick
cause they are full of talent
thats out of this planet
and thats why Pedestian will be a good flick
He has a huge part
taking pictures of art
Lincoln Booth is his name
though a pedestrian, he does not stray
from his love of Mona's heart
Southern Gothic is so inspiring
who new their love for the arts would bring
people from all over
even a girl who is a princess clover
all knit together by the SGP string
The mark that you will leave
its almost hard to believe
how much you have inspired
and how we admire
all that you are going to achieve
-Raquel
Ok, I tried.
But since English is not my first language, I said to myself ... Rhyme in French!
Peut-être est-ce du fait d'Hilarie
Ou simplement de la présence de Kelly
En tout cas, ce fut une bonne idée
Avec Austin et Nick à vos côtés,
SoGoPro semble bien parti !
I can translate if you wish ... !
There is so much to Mona Mills' name
And Lincoln Booth sees her as a dame
Jay is some piece of work
And the fans go berserk
As Pedestrian gathers great fame
Katie (aka irishmolly)
My last one...
Austin Nichols
There is a man of many masks.
He has difficulty of staying on task.
He has stolen our heart.
And won a great part.
How does he do it? I'm afraid to ask!
SoGoPro is on fire.
With writings they inspire,
Dreams will come true.
In whatever they do,
Our fondness for them only gets higher.
Beauty, brains, and wit
She even likes to knit
Miss Hilarie Burton
This is for certain
She's totally going to rock it
The stories have me gazing,
Anticipation is raising.
Nicholas Gray
What can I say?
Your words really are amazing!
St. Patrick's day is almost near,
I shall raise my glass in a cheer.
Thanks to SoGo,
For giving me hope.
Now lets all go share some green beer!
I do believe I think Im done,
I really need to leave and run.
Must get to work,
boss will go bizerk
But this limerick thing is way too fun! :)
An Irish themed Limerick for the team:
Austin Nichols ar mbodhrán go réidh
Rince Céilí ag Mona is Jay
Pionta Guinness ag Nick
Hil ag insint Limerick
Is Kelly ar an bhfeadóg stáin, YAY
English Translation:
Austin Nichols, the bodhrán he plays
Céilí dancing does Mona and Jay
Pint of Guinness has Nick
Hil narrates a Limerick
And Kelly plays the tin whistle, YAY
Katie (aka irishmolly)
Another one, this time in Irish to keep with my roots and those of the limerick:
An fear seo, Lincoln Booth atá air
É idir dhá chomhairle mar a deir
Faoin todhchaí ar mhaith leis
An bhean a dhéan gaisce
Is an lá a eitlódh sé sa spéir
This man, Lincoln Booth he is known by
And his conflicted thoughts they say lie
Of the future he wants
The woman as she flaunts
And the day in which he will fly high
Katie (aka irishmolly)
I still have to do one for Austin...
Ok I did a few more...
Lincoln Booth
There once was this guy who took dazzling prints.
Filled with perfection and just the right tint.
Met tons of honies.
Made lots of monies.
His pockets were never filled with lint.
Pedestrian
It is a story about a man and his dreams.
But nothing is ever what it seems.
Does he lose the lady?
I don’t know, maybe.
You can’t predict Lincoln or his dirty schemes.
Wilmington
In Wilmington they had found their place.
Filled with local talents displaying an eager face.
A dream. A desire.
Accurate attire.
All vying for a “character” to fully embrace.
Jay Moore
The town’s people could call her a slut.
In her slinky dresses she knew how to strut.
Men at her feet.
Secrets she could keep.
But mention Lincoln and her mouth would not shut.
Thanks for reading :)
Here goes with another one...
SoGoProductions team have a plea
To set the man in Lincoln Booth free
With the help of the team
This amazing fun dream
Will surely lead them to much glee
Katie (aka irishmolly)
This is such a great idea, and people come out with very good ones! I really enjoyed reading everybody's creation,so I amused myslef giving it a try too!
Hilarie was on TV
And she started her company
She’s got a lot of heart
And believes in her art
She will make it great you’ll see
SoGoPro comes from a dream
And amazing is its team
With their fans they established this connexion
To share the fruits of their imagination
And the evolution of their film
It is indeed exciting
To see what is coming
They will turn into movies
The most fascinating stories
We will be enjoying
Here we are to support you
We encourage you and thank you
For taking us in this adventure
That will go far for sure
We wish good luck to you!
Have a fantastic day everyone! :)
ok this totally sucks but here it is non the less...Be gentle with me i cant take criticism well lol
Miss Mona Mills has an addiction
Lincon Boothe is her pill perscription
She need to get into a "Program" STAT
Or risk becoming an Old lady with cats
It isnt easy working hard on rehabilitation.
HOPEFULLY I can come up with something better later..need to eat now the blood sugar is low hence the cr@ppy writing haha
Ok I gave this poetry thing a try. Here they are.
SGP
What a wonderful place to be
With their hearts of gold
So that everyone should be told
That this place, it's totally happening
One click was all it took
For many to take a look
And see the wonderful inside
That the SGP team doesn't hide
And to come back again and again and take another look
Music, Pictures, Quilts and Cakes
Are a few of the things we make
While supporting an amazing crew
Who has watched as we grew
And knew that all of this wasn't a mistake
Ok WOW more poetry competitions! Nick you making me work my brain more so than usual but im gonna give it a try! Ill be back...
A Lady named Jay, saucy a chic
with Lincoln she slept, he was a prick
Met Mona, agog
He gave her a snog
And he found new melons to lick.
***
The Lincoln, deep soul, he had desire
He fooled Jay, and slept round, was a liar
Met Mona who lead
Went straight to his head
Now his heart is consumed and on fire.
Nick!! Im so happy about this entry!
I was wondering when there would be another poem entry.
Limericks are perfect, especially since St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner.
Im definitely going to give this one a try.
Cant promise it will be good, but it will be laughable =)
:)
Kait
http://kaitlanolivia.blogspot.com
THIS IS MY FIRST POST AND I HAVENT WRITTEN IN A WHILE BUT HERE IT GOES.
THROUGH ONE TREE HILL WE HAVE GROWN
ACCUSTOMED TO HILARIE AS PEYTON
HOPEFULLY THRU SOGOPRO WE WILL
GET TO KNOW HILARIE AS GOOD OL HIL
SO HERES A TOAST TO THOSE WORKING ON PEDESTRAIN
http://maygenlauren.blogspot.com/2009/03/thank-you-nick-for-bringing-my....
i just couldn't stop once i'd begun:
lincoln booth, faced with a daunting past
takes mona mills, whose his at last
but truth, been buried
has the young woman hurried
and hes off to fight with class
photography is an art
lincoln booth, our fine man, takes part.
traveling the east coast
with mona mills whose most-
controlled lincoln by heart.
born to be an inspiring artist
has Nicolas grey, the smartest,
writing away
each and every new day
lincoln booth and mona mills his protagonist.
I thought of another one...or four.
The last one is particularly ridiculous but Nichols is hard to use in a rhyme. I tried. : )
Hilarie Burton
who loves the curtain
took that love
took it beyond and above
Southern Gothic will be great, I'm certain.
Nicolas Gray
what can I say?
his words are amazing
he deserves all the praising
My love for Pedestrian grows each day.
Kelly Tenney
makes decisions, many!
He's a man of his word
Southern Gothic without him-absurd!
He knows Pedestrian is worth every penny.
Austin Nichols
Might smell like pickles
but probably not
he's really hot
true to his role, never fickle.
Okay, one more for kicks. :)
His life is ending, so Lincoln Booth feels
that home will give him his final thrills,
but while North Carolina-bound,
instead he found,
salvation in Miss Mona Mills.
These are so much fun to read! Thanks for the challenges, SoGo team! Here's my addition to the limericks:
When a man named Lincoln Booth
learned his life would end in his youth,
he hit the road and found a girl
who would change his whole world,
for she showed him the inevitable truth.
Lincoln, erratic and insane,
Whose actions are simply inane
Soon meets Mona, naive but serene
She never could be mean
Their lives are never plain...
SORRY! This is horrible. Lol.
Awesome writing by everyone.
I shall give it an attempt lol
We have Nick, Kelly, and Hilarie Burton
They've started up Southern Gothic Production
Stories to be told
How will they unfold?
Something wonderfully brilliant has begun
Staring out the window sat Lincoln
Minding his business, and doing some thinkin'
Open flew the door
In strides Jay Moore
What happened next would have Mona Mills take up drinking
Awesome idea witht this limerick contest, Nick! Not sure I follow all the rythm rules but anyways :)
Here are some in french...
(About Southern Gothic Production)
Awesome Nick! I was going to mention another poetry contest when you chatted in the chat box. You read my mind. Here's my effort and my haiku that I was too shy to post:
Lady Mona unique loves wiggling
All men's hearts she did break from jiggling
Then she met Lincoln
Broken hearts thinkin
Then they fell into bed both giggling
Peculiar Hil'rie gave Kel a script
Nick burned through the midnight oil whipped
In comes her brother
Now Gothic Southern
Comedy genius Hil does conscript
My Haiku:
SGP fashioned
from a unique swarm into
emollient skies
Cheers,
Taylor
Oh man, these are all spectacular!
lets see... every time I start to think of a limerick I think of "there was an old woman who lived in a shoe"
*clears thought... ok now I'm ready
SGP is so great cause their passion wont stop
they leave others amazed hanging with a "Sebastian jaw drop"
Their first movie is "Pedestrian"
and their commitment to it is no question
It's so exciting I feel the need to hop
There was a man named Lincoln
he walked through life thinkin'
about Mona Mills
the thought of her gave him chills
and now her heart he is seekin'
like PB and J
they are meant to be this way
their love is so strong
as this pedestrian strolls along
and that love will never stray
ok thats it for now. maybe I'll contribute more later cause that was fun!
-Raquel
First limerick in spanish:
De Nueva York a Carolina viajando por carretera,
Lincoln conduce mientras Mona espera,
ella no para de hablar
y él no puede ni pensar
ella le mira y sonríe, y él, asustado, acelera.
Appoximate translation:
From New York to Carolina traveling by road,
Lincoln drives while Mona waits,
she doesn't stop talking
and he can't even think
she looks at him and smiles, and he, afraid, speed up.
irishmolly! Yours was great. I loved it!
