Austin has totally one-upped Nick and me with his
book club vlog.
He had his mind made up that he wanted to read a
passage from the book for everyone.....and so here you are.
A dazzling, fast paced piece of performance
art. There's one little flub, where he lost his place
in the book. But I left it in because error makes a
man like Austin that much more endearing. The only
thing he needs now is a pipe, a cardigan, and a
roaring fireplace. Perhaps next time.
Enjoy!

LOOKING FOR SOMETHING?

Comments
"The only thing he needs now is a pipe, a cardigan, and a roaring fireplace." - Hilarie Burton I LOVE Ayn Rand, y'all should check out her book Atlas Shrugged
-Lor
sooo a thousand months later but blogger is only just letting me comment (touch wood blogger doesnt smite me) anyway i HAD to come back to this post only because i am in LOVE with the fountainhead as much as it is possible to be in love with a book. atlas shrugged was my first ayn rand and is the one i have read over and over but the fountainhead is a very close second. for me it was always one of those books that has you torn between amazement at the sheer self belief and force of will and that incredible knowing of right and wrong and creativity in its absolute truest form... and losing faith in the human race seeing the ugliest face of humanity in contrast with the exalted... and its possible i am rambling and making NO sense...
needless to say i was really excited to see a book i love read with such passion by someone who clearly appreciates it (maybe not to my level of obsession? its ok no need to back away in fear..)anyway austin you are AMAZING keep the readings coming! - zoei xxx
To Austin
I would not like in most of the comments and say that I purchased this book.
But simply to say that I expect my fireplace that you just finish this naration me. Ok, I dream ... But who does not try nothing, nothing! Not true ...
I loved you so much for us to share this reading, even if I am not understand everything!
Sorry for my English a little bad.
A bientot.
XOXO.
Good choice for a book. I read it a while back and loved it!
Liz
Hilarie, you got is right - Austin is endearing. Ain't no other word that describes him better than that LOL.
Mr. Nichols, you are SUCH a cutie. And yes, that's a compliment. :D
Well, Mr. Nichols...you have me intrigued. I think I'll be purchasing this book soon! :) Loved the passion in the reading....
-Lync
When I was fifteen i started to read the fountainhead but didn't understand everything.
but i'm inspired to give it another try.
thanks for that, austin!
The fountain Head .. Awesome book.. Rand is an Awesome writer. My favorite was Atlas Shrugged.. I heard they were making movie with Atlas shrugged..
hmm, storytime with Mr. Nichols? I'm waiting for that fireplace and pipe...
I read the fountainhead when I was in 8th grade. (driven, huh?) But i've been meaning to read it again because i am 99% sure I didn't understand half the meaning of the book by reading it so young.
I'm loving this book club!
love always,
Nicole T
by the way, for those who can't hear/understand the video... the transcription can be found here! =]

Storytime with Austin Nichols, I'm liking that! Ayn Rand's books have been on my must read list for a while now I'll have to head to B&N to grab this one ASAP. Can't wait to dig into this literary classic! Thanks for the reminder.
Thanks Austin for reading (interpretation with the different tones of voices) and introducing a new book I never heard of. I might have to check it out.
Thanks to all of the SoGo people. Great job!!
If Austin reads this book so shall i.
I saw you at filming of OTH on Wednesday and you were in your trailer the whole time reading first we thought you were sleeping xPP
Hilarie love this post, were you filming?
Hi Hil !
This post totally rocks.
I'll probably buy this book It seems to be great!
I hope I'll find it in France!
You rock too and i hope that one day we can correspond together 'cause you seems to be very nice and I'd like to speak with you!

Well done Mr. Nichols! I quite enjoyed the passage, and love the idea of you reading it on a vlog, rather awesome. Now I want to hear more! I shall defintitely be adding this to my collection. Thank you for sharing! :)
Just came back in to say that I just read a whole thing about Ayn Rand. I love SoGoPro because it's opening me up to (I'm sure there's a better word than that) many new and exciting things. Ayn's life was interesting. Her whole take on Objectivism, which I'm sort of agreeing with, but we won't go into that hehe. Nuh yeah, really great to have found out about her. I will also go on to read Atlas Shrugged.
Thanks again guys. :)
Now I need to go home and read this book for the third time :) Thanks for inspiring my inner book dork this Friday morning. Although now concentrating at work will be pretty difficult with visions of curling up by a fireplace with this book and Mr. Nichols swirling in my head.
I'm so gonna check out The Fountainhead now; it sounds really interesting.
Thanks for the vlog guys. And thanks for the great read Austin, you should record readings of books and let us buy them, I could totally picture that whole part in my head. Has this story been a movie? Hmm, I'm gonna investigate further. :)
Hope each of you at SoGoPro give book reading a try too. :)
I really loved this vlog. People who care about books are definitely awesome. Growing up I used to feel like a total nerd for smiling uncontrollably over an amusing passage during class. These days, I love when I'm reading a book I know well enough that I smile pages before the incident and build it up so much I can't bear it and have to take a break.
I love this blog, easily one of the best that I subscribe to. The passion and happiness is so obvious.
-alaina
1.) Amazing book choice, and Austin, you read it so well - as an English instructor and grad student, it makes me happy when people get into literature!
2.) SoGoprah, haha! That's awesome! :)
3.) Request for Mr. Nichols - As much as I loved your reading of Rand, what I would really like is to hear you read some of your own work sometime... just a suggestion. ;)
Have a great day, SoGo team!
Aww..Austin, it was so sweet of you to read us a passage of a favorite book. I totally want to go out and buy it now..lol. It sounded really good. You guys crack me up..haha. You never know what to expect. Its a surprise every time I come and read a new blog. Its quite exciting =). You guys are doing a wonderful job! Can't wait to read more update. Let me know if I can help with anything, in anyway.
XOXO

Alright so a few things first. Austin.... thank you for making this vlog. LOL. I'm glad to know that you told us what you were reading on Wednesday, so I knew beforehand... although I was hoping it was the script for Pedestrian. Secondly... STORYTIME! I absolutely love this. Hilarie, Nick, Kelley, please join in. And finally, have you guys been really into Oprah lately, because her book club has like spiraled downward for me. I'm glad I can now join a new one. I'll def check this one out after I finish "Hardball" for my Int'l Studies class.

My father made this book required reading for all of his children. And so far most of us have read it, or at least most of it...
Austin, you are an amazing reader. I actually went by the store to pick up a copy of the book today and the clerk told me there wasn't any left and that for some strange reason, he had sold the last two that very morning. Maybe SGP followers?
Has the rest of the team read it or do you only manage to convince us? :)
Thank you Hilarie for posting!
Jess xoxo

Gosh darn it, Austin Nichols! You're an excellent reader!! You brought me back to the days when I used to listen to my older brother read out loud. Thanks for the trip down memory lane...and thanks for the book tip :) I look forward to your next reading...
Your faithful listener,
Lynette
That was really wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing ... that was an excellent passage!

Great choice. I have not personally read The Fountainhead, but I have read another book by Ayn Rand; Anthem.
Had to read it for english class and it was amazing. I'm assuming this book will be just as good.

Omg. Now I want to find the book now. I was getting into it. Austin do more story time. Good book Austin!!!!!!!!
5 years ago my friend Nora and I both randomly and independently wanted to tackle The Fountainhead. We decided it was too daunting a task to do alone, so for one summer we met every other day to dissect the chapters of The Fountainhead we had read. Thank you for reminding everyone how vital this book is to the literary canon.
Here's my favorite Fountainhead line:
"I don't know which is the greater strength: to accept all of this for you - or to love you so much that the rest is beyond acceptance" -Ms. Rand

Awww i really enjoyed that, I wish there was more! I could listen to Austin read the whole book (im so lazy!).
My inner child is reading the 'Twilight' books at the moment (ha!), but I've been contemplating what to read next...The Fountainhead it is then. Thanks for helping me out with that, it's about time i read something for the more 'mature mind'.
that made me want to pick up the fountain head and finish it, i read half of it but got side tracked with school but im determined to finish unless Austin continues to read passages of it lol.
yay for storytime. I felt like I should have sat down on the carpet with my feet "indian style" as you were reading. Its funny that you were reading that book. I actually was just reading bits of that book last saturday at my friends house and afterwards went to an amazing place called Powells Books and saw it there. I didn't get it, but I think I might have to go back and get it now.
Raquel
wow. it sounds like a great book. I promise I'll read it some time in the future. don't have the time right now. I hope you have a book-club-website Austin.
:)

Thanks for posting this vlog Austin and Hil!

For being a self-proclaimed bookworm, I'm ashamed to admit I've never read any Ayn Rand. I liked this passage and I hope we get more story time vlogs from you guys.
I love the image of Mr. Nichols in a cardigan with a pipe reading to us. Please do it next time.
Neera!
P.S. SoGoprah book club? Genius!
I'll have to check this book out over Spring Break, when I can read what I actually want to read. Hah.
Thanks, Austin and Hil!
You guys are awesome. Thanks for making me an even bigger SoGo junkie. :p
Well, if Austin Nichols really wants me to go get The Fountainhead, I will go get The Fountainhead :P

Thank You Hil for posting this vlog it was really interesting to watch!!
One question for you Hil... with your own production company why dont we see you producing or co producing any episodes of One Tree Hill?? It would be great to see your work on a show that has been part of you life for the past 6 years!!
Thanks again for the vlog!!
That was a nice kick @ss reading Austin, i think Hils right you need a cardigan, a pipe and a fireplace Mmmm on second though scratch that cardigan idea...is there anyway you can do book readings shirtless?? haha
Like Maygen said Hells yeah to the credit Card!
Not funny Austin. I'm sending my book bills to Southern Gothic Productions... I hope you don't mind. I'm only like 100 dollars in debt. Hells yea to the credit card.
BUT! ... another book to read?? Better be good because now im going to have to visit my local library...
Thanks for the story time,
Good break from my day =]
I've always heard great things about this book, but have never gone out to get it. I'm definitely going to make a point of picking up a copy now! Thanks Austin!
Im so reading this book! Its AMAZING. Im near the end and I cant bring myself to finish it because I dont want it to end. Dominique and Howard are great characters!
nice reading.
I work at the library. I'm going to see if I can find it. Right now I'm reading The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. It's a children's book but I'm in graduate school for library and information science and it was recommended by my professor. It's about a boy raised by ghosts.
I love stroytime!! Going to pick up a copy of "The Fountainhead" tomorrow.
Great job Austin.
Kim
Austin ! great lecture definitely gonna read the book !
