a pedestrian journey - chapter four.

NGray's picture

last night i had not one, but two, top-notch dreams. in the first, i was engaged in a battle royale with a vampire queen. there was a lot of defying gravity going on. a lot of paleness. a lot of fang-age. and i think the vampire queen was michelle rodriguez. in the second, i was doing an interview with a reporter, and she queried, 'which person, dead or alive, would you want to have dinner with?' to which i replied, 'goldie hawn.' duh. there was confetti, much ado, bright sweeping lights, and suddenly, the reporter was poof! gone, and i was having lobster with goldie hawn.

the true-love tale of Boyfriend and Girlfriend originated in a dream i had the night before i pitched the idea to hilarie, in which i was a sufjan stevens-type of indie rocker named Girlfriend. i was a role model to millions, well maybe thousands.

i have dreamed two fully-conceived scripts, one a deeply disturbing play about our current war, the other a cheap-o drama for Fox about a scorned mafiosa-turned-assassin that wears heels and hoops in varied shades of blonde. i intend to write only one of those.

on november 27th, 2001, i had a dream that george harrison died. he died two days later. i'm not even that big of a beatles fan.

i often dream i am a sylar victim.

the point is, i dream a lot. and i frequently remember my dreams. and my dreams are of magnanimous great import, to me. as i was beginning to be a fledgling writer, it became quickly evident that the way i observed and processed people and happenings was changing, was becoming more dreamlike, more curious, more obtuse. i wanted lincoln to see with that quality as well. being a photog, he has the visionary on his side. and so his visions, his dreams became a very tangible security blanket for him.

even as a novice, i knew that dream sequences walk the fine line of cliche territory. i knew i certainly didn't want that. so. i dreamed. and i think the tinges of magical realism that were exported into the script became the cornerstone of pedestrian. so if you were jiving on mona before, now you know, she'll find herself in some very colorful situations. and she doesn't even know it.

yours.

Oh I wish I could remember all my dreams. They are always adventuress and interesting stories put together. However, I usually only remember parts or only briefly, for a few minutes after I wake, then I realize I'm tired and forget what I was just thinking about. lol

Interesting dreams. I was beginning to think I was the only one who can remember most of my dreams, all the details too.

That photo ..... HAHA, you're awesome.

Fun Fact: Goldie Hawn actually has a cottage on the same lake which my uncle does! :)
Nick, I am envious that you can remember your dreams in such detail! They sound very exciting and interesting!
Keep up the solid dreaming!
xo Beth

wicked pic! completely random, love it!
i have weird dreams myself, and just this saturday i dreamt about going into a used books shop and finding a book that had belonged to hilarie! no kidding! on the 1st page, there was her signature -xo, hil-, the book was The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury. i ended up buying the book, and it did have a signature, just someone else's.

xo,
Ella

The picture of you as a Sylar victim is WONDERFUL!! ahahah! I always dream of being in some tv show.
Anyway, you're lucky you can remember what you dreamt. I think dreams are always important, even the ones that seem meaningless.
Thanks for sharing something about Pedestrian again.

First off absolutely love the photo, very Sylar victimesque.... Second very interesting post!

Dreams are very fascinating, I'm always borrowing my friends dream book to see what the meaning of my dream the night before was.

Thanks again for the intriguing post Nick!

xoxo Shailee

its cool how Tltobag came to you in a dream. i actually had a dream come true but it involved different people. it was one night my uncle and his band were coming home from a gig in the next town and the drummer and his new wife were coming home and hit a cow in the middle of the hwy he died and she lived, but in my dream it was my grandfather who died(and kept following me around being a pest lol) and my grandmother who lived the freaky part is i woke up crying at the exact time it happened i just didnt find out til the next day.

ps i love the sylar victim pic, it always freaks me out when he does that, and what do you think of the season finale?

Val

lol.. a sylar victim? hah... you should be the one battling with sylar.. anyway.. your blog inspires a lot of people to be more creative and imaginative... id love to hear more about your dreams and cant wait for you to make it into reality.. take care:)

I love that you are into magic realism - that's one of my favourite techniques to see incorporated into a story - Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Angela Carter spring to mind as authors who do it brilliantly :).

Reading this post, and hearing your dreams becoming products of reality, leaves me feeling inspired- knowing that it really is possible for dreams to come true- even if only by them being put physically to film. (In your case of course, it seems as though several dreams come true each day, which of course, is even more inspiring). Thank you for following your beautiful passion and sharing your talent with us.

Wonderful entry.

I always love reading what you write Nick. Mostly because I can relate so well. My dreams have been unusually absent of late. But when I do dream it's kind of intense, and highly memorable.

I love that you share your dreams and even make them into bigger things.

Having Sylar dreams would be too scary, I'd never want to go to sleep.

Keep dreaming!

Sometimes I remember my dreams and sometimes probably more often I forget them. Sometimes when I try to retell someone a dream I had, the dream is too complex for explaination and makes very little sense to anyone but me. Dreams are very interesting though. Thank you for sharing yours or well some of yours with us. :)

I do wonder though, what power did you have that Sylar took? ;) (you know if you were a victim)

~Robin

Wow! Nick great post.
I to have some wicked dreams but i never thought o writing them down. Probably because when i wake up from having one i usually can't remember then.
Put the ones i can remember, i think I'll start
writing them down. I am a inspiring art/writer and being able to remember such dreams will diffiantly help me to create some fantastic stuff. And I never knew that's how writers got their brilliant ideas. Now i know. And i think its so amazing watching Pedestrian unfold. I am so excited to see it finished and in all it's creative glory.

The dreams can become premonitions...
We also say that our dreams serve us has to exteriorize our tensions and drives of our days...
Then Nick, thought you in them of meanings?

Thank you (x3)

I have that thing with dreams too! I Dream an 'epic' dream (that is what I like to call'em) with beginnings and endings and suspense (or not). Then I remember the whole thing, tell it to somebody and they...laugh at me saying "well you must watch too much TV or something (which I don't!).

Well maybe I should stop telling my dreams and start 'exploring' them eh? Who knows what may come out of them!

Thanks for sharing your creativity lol
Peace and love
xoxo

Great post Nick! Thanks for sharing all that!

I have a lot of those kind of dreams as well, so a few months ago I started to write the goods ones down right after I woke up so I wouldn't foget them. I have a lot of fun reading my 'dreamlog' now.

btw. loved the 'sylar victim' picture!

Love from Brazil,
Luiza

those are some pretty interesting dreams. All my dreams are weird cause I always know that I'm dreaming so if it ever gets too weird my head is always like "Dude, Raquel... this doesn't makes sense why is the turtle making you breakfast?"
Thanks for sharing more little pieces of Pedestrian with us.

-Raquel
P.S. I love Sufjan Stevens

But let me add this too, if Nick won't take part in Heroes in coming days but a year later, like next season, let me have my lobster with Raquel Welch, lol, but wear napkin under my chin so I won't spill over my smoking jacket. He is a gifted writer and I hope he can also contribute to Heroes' scenario too.

Lobster with Goldie Hawn sounds fantastic! Dreams are such a funny thing, its amazing what the mind will do when the body is shut down. The other night I was at a gas station to get a copy of TV guide, I wanted one with Simon Cowell on the cover, I went to ask the man at the counter if they had it, the man turned around and it was Simon Cowell, but he had dyed his hair blonde. How odd. My grandma once told me she had a dream that we were all at the calgary stampede fair, she was holding me, a baby at the time, and my head fell off. This worried me.
I love all these little pieces of Lincoln's world, and your world. Thank you for sharing them! Yes, and that photo is awesome!

what fantastic dreams you have sir. I can rarely remember mine, and when I do they're nothing special usually. Dinner with Goldie Hawn, that's an event certainly to be remembered. Michelle Rodriguez scared me enough on Lost so I'll leave you to dueling her as a vampire queen.
The little tibits you shared for Pedestrian sound awesome. Thanks for sharing your inspirations with us yet again. :)
-Becca

so this is going to be completely random, but when you mentioned michelle rodriguez it reminded me of the show LOST and i dreamed up how they were going to get off the island. i kid you not, i dreamed they flew off in a helicopter with the exact people. four months later, the exact thing happened. it was crazy. so yeah, pointless ramble.

p.s. loved the heroes references. :D

I've always wondered if writers write about their dreams.. because i have some pretty wicked dreams myself, and i figured all the gifted writers did too.

I do love watching pedestrian unfold here,
Thank you!

Ps, I LOVE that picture!

Is Nick planning to appear on Heroes? lol Milo Ventimiglia and Zachary Quinto make way haha

wow nick! the first thing that i gotta say is: i totally love that picture of you. very well put together mess of a hairdo :) love it. second, it's really neat about your dreams. i dream a lot ... a lot, but i never remember enough of them to write them down. there is usually a major instance/happening that i can fully remember, not so much on the minor details.
i can totally picture mona getting into some colorful situations and i'm so excited that you share little glimpses into the Pedestrian world.
you are one intense, humble and enigmatic dude, my dear and i am so very proud to be a part of the SGP crew.

Smiles,
Angie
